From the warm and relaxed welcome, the high quality, locally sourced food and drink, to the rustic beauty of the landscape right on the doorstep, there is something for everyone at any time of the year.

When I reflect on our recent trip to Spain my favourite days were spent at the Hotel Posada San Marcos in Alajar, with hosts Lucy and Angel. The accommodation was excellent, the meals cooked by Lucy were superb, and our comfortable room opened out to a beautiful garden with a large well kept swimming pool. The care provided by the bilingual owner/operators was wonderful and the knowledge I obtained about the region and the local area, in my conversations with Lucy and Angel added value to our stay. The walking in the National Park was superb: we headed out on different Andalusia walks over 4 days. We highly recommend this independently run, eco-friendly boutique hotel. We met interesting, friendly people in this well designed and well run hotel, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will return for another visit when we are in Spain for the 2030 World Cup.

Lucy’s delicious cooking reflects the region too.
Fragrant Lemons are picked from the evocative Moon lemon tree on the terrace and in the garden scented herbs are gathered for memorable dishes.

The region’s famous cork oak landscape backs directly onto the property and enticing walks beckon in every direction. As seasoned walkers Lucy and Angel are always happy to offer invaluable insider knowledge to help you explore
this landscape and its villages.

Lucy and Angel’s green credentials are impeccable. They live and breath this life and even the swimming pool is filled with salt water instead of chlorine. You can rest assured as you take a dip that you have found a place that is far more than just a place to stay. Posada San Marcos will resonate with you long after you leave.

Lovely room with all the facilities we needed and spotlessly clean .
We had lovely flowery walks , as short or long as you wanted . Lucy and Angel are the perfect hosts .
Lucy’s meals were truly excellent . It was all so relaxing . The pool was wonderful !
The village of Alajar is beautiful ,small and very rural but with various cafes , bars and restaurants- amazing for such a small town, and busy but not in the least touristy. Always somewhere open for drinks and coffees . And with plenty small shops too.

Our last visit was fourteen years ago . We cannot understand why we waited so long to return !

We had a wonderful stay here thanks to our hosts Lucy and Angel. They really go the extra mile to make your stay memorable. We were treated to delicious breakfasts with homemade treats, a dinner on their terrace with a view of the hills across the Rivera de Alejar. When my husband's hiking app didn't work, Angel showed us a better one with all our planned routes available to follow. The olive tasting was an extra charge, but very informative and I highly recommend it.

De Posado beschikt over een paradijselijke tuin, waar je kunt zwemmen in een zoutwater-bad en kunt eten op een terras met schitterend uitzicht, van eten dat eigenares Lucy zelf bereidt. Eigenaar Angel kan veel vertellen over de natuur en de gebruiken in de omgeving, en trouwens ook over andere aspecten van Andalusië en heel Spanje. Niet onbelangrijk, tot slot: wij hadden een kamer die goed koel bleef.

This is a lovely hotel in a beautiful setting. Our hosts Lucy and Angel were welcoming and knowledgeable. They looked after us before, during and even after our stay, from offering advice on local footpaths and later hotel transfers. The rooms are charming and comfortable with beautifully restored furniture. The grounds are a delight, offering a swimming pool and views over the hillside. The food is home made or locally sourced from breakfast through imaginative picnic lunches to inventive dinners such as Iberian pork in chocolate sauce. Thank you for looking after us, Lucy and Angel.

We had a great stay at the Posada San Marcos in Alájar. The Posada San Marcos is a small family run business. The owners (hosts) Angel and Lucy are very friendly, welcoming and helpful with anything you need. They speak english, spanish and french as well. Both breakfast and diner were excellent with meals prepared by Lucy herself using natural products from the region. The Posada has a very nice garden, a terras and a very nice swimming pool. Also there are various possibilies for walking in the region, The Sierra de Aracena. The posada supports the mission for sustainability and conservation of the park.
In summary: Great stay, great place and great hosts. We therefore highly recommend the Posada San Marcos.

What a treat it was to spend a few days at Posada San Marcos. Lucy and Angel went out of their way to cater for our varying dietary requirements and each day suggested a beautiful walk in the area. They gave us a GPS device with a huge variety of walks downloaded onto it, which was incredibly helpful. The pool beckoned after our walk and then a delicious dinner ended the day. Would highly recommend.
