This was honestly my worst albergue experience on the Camino. The place was recommended to me by another pilgrim and I reserved a spot through WhatsApp.

I arrived on a rainy afternoon in September. When I got there nobody was there, only a note saying to go around the back because the garden door was open. Later I texted to ask when reception would open again and the owner replied not to worry, that we would see each other “one way or another” that day and that I could just choose a bed myself.

For the next hours I was completely alone in the place with the door unlocked, which made me feel unsafe and uncomfortable as a solo traveler. Later two girls arrived and they were just as confused as I was that nobody had welcomed or checked us in.

The good side of the property is that the bunk beds are actually very good and have curtains for privacy. The garden is also nice and the kitchen is well equipped.

But later in the evening, around 8 or 9, I was already lying in bed relaxing because I thought nobody else would arrive anymore. The girls had gone out for dinner so I was alone again. Suddenly someone opened the door and I heard “hello, Angel here.” Then he came over and opened my curtain while I was still lying there. Maybe he meant nothing by it, but it felt intrusive to me.

I chatted a bit with the owner while paying and getting a stamp for my Camino passport. For the most part it was okay, but also a bit strange. He came up close and repeatedly asked me how I liked it there. Looking back I wish I had just told the truth, but honestly I think I was a bit scared. He also offered me a new Camino passport for 5 euros, while later I found out they are usually given for free.

Facility-wise, the beds and garden are nice, but the toilet was dirty and the shower drained badly and kept flooding. I got the impression they leave it like that, to ensure short showers. The next morning I accidentally burned my toast and there was quite a lot of smoke, but I didnt notice a fire alarm being there.

It has been quite sometime since I stayed here and I still get a bad feeling in my stomach thinking about this place. Maybe some people will like it, but personally I would not recommend it. As the owner told me himself, he has enough money already, so do the town a favour and support another albergue.
